This is one of my favorite accessories for my M4, there are a lot of different companies that make them so don't think that I'm just out to endorce Magpul on here, it's just what Impact Guns had in stock when I was in there shopping. Simply put it makes life much easier, especially if you're a lefty. I will add a video here of exactly how to install the B.A.D. just as soon as I find it on my computer. Unfortunatly, with the problems I've had with it recently, it make take awhile.

Nessesary Black Rifle Mod

I find this to be one of the most needed modifications to a black rifle. The addition of an ambidextrous safety to your rifle can be a huge difference whichever hand you use to shoot as your dominant hand.

Withdraw

I decided to delete my Twitter and Facebook accounts, and I have to say that I'm already suffering a little withdraw from it! I don't think that it helps much that my ASUS notebook took a shit months ago (like right after the warranty ran out), but it still sees the "quick launch" BS operating system, so I can still get online, I just don't have java, or flash player, or anything else that makes it so the interweb is actually worthwhile! Maybe I will be back on Twitter and Facebook, and I probably will, but maybe I will use a different account, one that no one I know personally knows about. Maybe then I can keep it so when I post things I don't get chewed out about every little damn thing I say!

Yesterday, Dec. 7, 1941, a date which will live in infamy, the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.

The United States was at peace with that nation and, at the solicitation of Japan, was still in conversation with the government and its emperor looking toward the maintenance of peace in the Pacific.

Indeed, one hour after Japanese air squadrons had commenced bombing in Oahu, the Japanese ambassador to the United States and his colleagues delivered to the Secretary of State a formal reply to a recent American message. While this reply stated that it seemed useless to continue the existing diplomatic negotiations, it contained no threat or hint of war or armed attack.

It will be recorded that the distance of Hawaii from Japan makes it obvious that the attack was deliberately planned many days or even weeks ago. During the intervening time, the Japanese government has deliberately sought to deceive the United States by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The attack yesterday on the Hawaiian islands has caused severe damage to American naval and military forces. Very many American lives have been lost. In addition, American ships have been reported torpedoed on the high seas between San Francisco and Honolulu.

Yesterday, the Japanese government also launched an attack against Malaya.

Last night, Japanese forces attacked Hong Kong.

Last night, Japanese forces attacked Guam.

Last night, Japanese forces attacked the Philippine Islands.

Last night, the Japanese attacked Wake Island.

This morning, the Japanese attacked Midway Island.

Japan has, therefore, undertaken a surprise offensive extending throughout the Pacific area. The facts of yesterday speak for themselves. The people of the United States have already formed their opinions and well understand the implications to the very life and safety of our nation.

As commander in chief of the Army and Navy, I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense.

I know that I haven't posted in awhile, and using this computer is a real pain to even post this up here. I'm hoping that within the next couple of weeks I'll be back up and running and able to test out a few new things. There have been a lot of changes around here in the last year, and as it turns out it looks like I won't have my truck anymore, but I will have a car that is more reliable, but that thing isn't about to get me up into the mountains. Then again, snow is here and I won't be going into the mountains much until spring anyways, hopefully by then I'll figure something out.

In the meantime, here is a video of Jessica shooting my AK, not liking it much, and me finishing up the mag! The funny part about this video is listening to my wife in the background off camera, she's at the point that she can't handle the other two (who are also teenagers) trying to get her attention when she's trying to watch Jessica shoot.

Can the republic be saved?

As I've been watching the news recently, and there are all of these budget fights, I've found myself wondering if there is even a possibility of saving the republic. It's looking more and more like we're going to end up in the same place no matter who is elected to the Presidency. I'm wondering this because of all of the fighting in the Senate and the Congress. I also see what's going on in the country as a whole, and this is a country divided. You have the Tea Party out rallying for smaller, more responsible government, and the Occupy crowd out rallying for bigger, more irresponsible government, along with an amazing amount of class warfare. Unfortunately for the people in this country that stand for law and order, and want the Republic to succeed, the media is on the side of the Occupiers.
I personally am not part of the 1%, in fact I currently live below the poverty line. I do however see a way that I can be successful, it is possible, as long as the left doesn't get it's way. If the left is allowed to succeed not only is the country doomed, but it will be impossible become successful in your own life. If you keep taking people's money in order to give it to someone else, you're going to run out of money sooner or later!

I see people whining and complaining that they bought a house, have been paying on it, and now it's worth less than they still owe. There are many of these people that think the bank should "forgive" the part of their mortgage that makes them underwater. I think that the banks should have foreseen this and that maybe in the future they will take it into consideration that the houses that they're lending people money for may end up being worth less then what the person agreed to pay for the house. The banks should enter contracts that if you buy a house for $100,000 and it's now worth $50,000 that the bank should "forgive" the $50,000 that the house lost in value. They should also have in the contracts that if you buy a house for $100,000 and sell it for $150,000 the bank gets to keep the $50,000 extra that you sold it for. Fair is fair people, you can't expect to get something without giving up a little too!

     OK, so I've been paying attention recently to the "occupy" crowd, and like I posted before I firmly believe that these people are communists and that they are ultimately out for the destruction of the Untied States of America.
     If you pay any attention to what most of them are saying they want to end capitalism, and they sure as hell don't want anyone to be allowed to make any real money in their lives. I don't think that any of them realize that if you were to take all the money away from the rich then the government is going to need to look elsewhere for what they consider to be "their fair share"(because there won't be anymore rich folks to tax), so the next "logical" solution to the commie crowd is to tax corporations. You may think that that would work, and to some degree it would. If you were to tell GE that they needed to pay $20 billion in US taxes to the federal government next year, that would be great! The government would get their $20 billion of extra cash, but there is one small problem, your light bulbs would get awful expensive.
   Why is it that when someone buys a house, then stops paying for it, should they be allowed to keep the house? What makes people think that if they get a huge loan in order to get an education that they shouldn't be required to pay it back? These people feel like they should get everything that they want just because all of these things are "human rights", I'm here to call BS on that. I remember Slick Willy getting up there and saying how everyone needs to be able to own a house, wether they can pay for it or not. That's what started this whole mess in the first place, (yes I know that the polices started back under Jimmy Carter).
      Although the right to protest things that you don't like is a very American thing, these people are totally Un-American. By definition, they are Un-American, and they are trully dangerous, but more on that later.

Just a few days ago we had our first snowfall in the mountains here in north Utah, soon we will get snowfall down to the valley floor, and temps will drop below freezing. It really makes you realize that if you want to go shooting again anytime soon, you better do it quickly before they close the road over the mountains!

I was just thinking about these communist fucktards that are marching on Wall Street and all over the country by now. If you read their Bravo Sierra they hate the United States, they hate business, and they are attempting to push their "redistribution of wealth" attitudes, simply put that hate the successful! The real question is: how many of them would give up what they've gotten through capitalism? How many of these people own an iPhone/iPod/iPad/iAnything? You simply would not have any of those things without capitalism, do you honestly believe that in 1976 that Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak would have stated Apple had they been born in the Soviet Union? There is no possible way that we'd have anything that makes our lives comfortable if we didn't have a free market system. When was the last time that something was invented in Cuba that the rest of the world wanted?

If you've checked this blog recently I'm sure that you've noticed that I haven't done anything here recently, there are a few reasons why and I'll expaine them now. 1st and formost my funding basically dried up, after I was supposed to get a lathe I was basically told to go screw myself on that one, my financial "backers" (family) decided that I wasn't worth spending money on and backed out. That was a real kick in the crotch and a real de-motivator, kind of made it so that I didn't really feel like working on the black rifle project as much anymore. I have done a few small things, and I did take pictures of the mods that I did, but that leads me to the next part, my computer crashed! Although I am on it right now, it no longer has Windows on it, and it also won't let me reinstall it saying that the hard drive isn't "active" anymore, so I'm stuck with this ASUS Splashtop browser, and a simple SD card if I need to save anything. I'll try to get back to doing this project, and working more on my second rifle. I do have a lot of ideas, just need to wait until I can get the funding back on track again.

Bersa Thunder .380

I finally got out shooting my Bersa Thunder 380, this is a gun that I never really thought that I would trust my life on because I for one had not shot it much at all, and secondly, I have read some things that this not being very reliable. I was only able to put about 100 rounds through it but it functioned flawlessly. There wasn't a single hiccup, it shot/extracted/ejected every round we put through it, witch is more than I can say for the other guns we took with us (especially my black rifle). Ammo used was Blazer brass and some reloads that I've had for over 10 years.

The only things that I don't like about the Thunder is that it seems to have a little more bite to it than a lot of other guns I've shot. I can't say that I know why it bites your hand the way it does but by watching the videos you can see that it does. So far I'm impressed with this weapon, I would have no problem carrying it for self defense once I've been able to put more rounds downrange with it. Unfortunately, spare magazines for this weapon are expensive and I don't have any spares right now. I always want to have spare magazines for my guns, in fact if I'm carrying a short capacity auto loader like this, I would prefer to have a second. If I have a revolver I would prefer to have a speed loader with me, same basic thing.

Charging Handle Latches

I picked up a cheap charging handle latch a few weeks ago to see if it would be a good addition to my black rifle. With the folding Magpul rear sight installed it actually makes it a little awkward to charge the rifle with the stock latch installed. With the addition on the much larger latch installed it makes it a lot easier to charge. If I were to go out today to get another one, and I probably will get another one soon because the one that I got is cheaply made. It actually looks and feels like it's die cast pot metal, that was painted black. You would be much better off getting one that is made from machined aluminum, then hard coat anodized. That would have a better chance of lasting longer, especially if you bang you black rifle around, and aren't always gentle with it.

Ok, this sucks!

I took the black rifle over to the range today and after a little time there, and only a little more than a hundred rounds the black rifle decided that it didn't want to extract anymore. This picture was one of the many times that it happened, and it started to get very irritating. The part that I think is more annoying is that now I need to get the parts to attempt ti fix it. It should be easy enough at least as all I will (hopefully/probably) need is an #60 o-ring, or a D-Fender "D" ring to try to tighten up the extractor. I just hope that's actually the problem.

Considering that my 38th birthday just passed I decided to go up to Impact Guns this morning and get myself the start of my next black rifle. Aalthough I'm not entirely sure that this one will actually be my "next" rifle, I'm kind of thinking that once I get the lower parts installed in this I many just switch it out with my Del-Ton receiver, then I may just make myself a FDE rifle, instead of having two black rifles.

This is a Smith & Wesson M&P (Military and Police) 15, and yes, I admit that I've been on a little bit of a Smith & Wesson kick recently, I still need to get the camera and the camcorder to the range, not just with my M4, but also with my M&P 9. The one time that I had a chance to go to the range with it I wasn't able to take the cameras with me but, it will be soon.

The death of Usama Bin Laden

Yes, I know it's a fake.

All over the news since last Friday is the constantly changing story of how the US Navy shot and killed Usama Bin Laden. The same media that not all that long ago wrote and aired stories that were there to make you believe that the entire United States military were nothing more than criminals that were just out to terrorize innocent Muslims now have changed their tune. They now think that the SEALS are just the best thing ever, and that they are the bravest and best people on the planet. If George W Bush was still in office the story would be completely different and we all know it. The SEALs would be called a "hit squad" who did exactly that, they carried out a "hit".
Of corse if you want to break it down, you could say that it was a hit, there was apparently only one shot fired at the SEALs, and Bin Laden himself was (apparently) unarmed when the bullets turned his hear and his brains into nothing much more than red goo. Was it wrong? That's an entirely different question, one that no one person's opinion matters about either. Usama Bin Laden was personally responsible for killing thousands of people around the world, and if he had been taken alive he would never even set foot on American soil. He would've spent the rest of his life in a small cell on a tropical island, just like the rest of his buddies.
The main thing that I personally can't stand is the way they treated the body. They should have made damn good and sure that he didn't make it to paradise. There are many ways to accomplish this, and the US Navy should have made sure to do at least one or two of them.

I mean I'm all for giving credit were credit is due, but this guy is a total fucking joke! I honestly don't think that he believes any thing that he just said.

Rail Interface System

Although I can't see the point of the way a lot of people are "accessorizing" their black rifles nowadays, not that "ricing" out your gun is a new thing. It's been going on for years and you can tell that there are people that fully belive that by putting a ton of shit on their weapon that they'll be the coolest person at the gun range. Maybe if you have all the most expensive shit, most of which will never be used for anything, (much less that they will even learn how to use it effectively) the guy next to you will think that you are cool.
That being said, one thing that I did feel like putting on my M4 was a new handguard that I can attach a gangster grip to. The one that I picked up is just a cheap one like is made by UTG or AIM sports. It's not too heavy, although I forgot to weigh it before I installed it, and the edges aren't too sharp that they hurt your hand when you grip it. Most importantly, it mounts nice and solid to the rifle.

Installation is pretty much straightforward and easy, with the exception of the fact that the Del-Ton delta ring is pretty tight so getting the old CAR grips off was kind of a pain considering that I don't have a handguard removal tool. I've never needed one before now, and I honestly don't think I'll need one in the future. There are four screws that hold it together and I had them all snugged down before I realized that I had forgotten locktite, I had to take them back out to put some blue locktite on the screws. Otherwise, everything went nice and smooth, pretty easy to install.

I can't wait until the spring thaw around here, when I can get up into the mountains and do some good blasting and practicing and training with my black rifle. Right now it would seem that I would prefer a slightly longer handguard though. I would feel more comfortable with a "mid-length" instead of the "carbine length" that I have now, but that's for the future.

Magpul Enhanced Trigger Guard

I was in Impact Guns the other day and I decided to pick up a Magpul Enhanced Trigger Guard, the one that they had in stock happened to be the aluminum version, which happens to be the one that I was wanting. They also have it made of the same plastic as the rest of their products. Installation is pretty straight forward, especially if you assembled your lower yourself, you simply pop out the stock roll pin with a pin punch, the punch the new one in, the big difference is that the front has a set screw to hold it together instead of the spring loaded plunger.

Once you have it installed you can see and feel the advantage to it, it gives you a little more room and the edges are rounded off. It's nice to not have sharp corners.

Having the Enhanced Trigger Guard on your black rifle helps to eliminate some of the gap between the trigger guard and the grip.

There are a ton of different cartridges available for your 5.56 black rifle, this picture is just a few of those choices. Choice number 3 is my personal choice for home defense, it's a pre-fragmented round. The core is made of fragmented copper, when it hits the target, even moving at 3000+ fps it's not going to penetrate very deep, in fact on Nosler's website the ballistic tip lead free only penetrates about 6" to 8". It's just going to dump all of it's energy into the first few inches of target.This spring when the other side of the mountains finally decides to thaw out I hope to do some tests of these against different types of targets, including to see how it does against walls and floors and the like.

Max Burton Microlite

I got this little stove a wile back and this one has really impressed me. When I first got it I wasn't sure that I was going to like it because the burner is small so it centers the flame right in the middle of the pot or pan that you're cooking in. After using it a few times I realized that this is more of an asset than a problem, it makes it so that you can use a better variety of pots, pans, mugs, or whatever else that you're using to cook in. You're not going to do much simmering with this stove, but it's not ment for that, it's more made to boil water for dehydrated or freeze dried foods. This stove will boil a pint of water in about 3 minutes (6000 to 6500ft), which is just the right amount for a Mountain House freeze dried pouch, if you haven't tried these before I can defiantly recommend the chili mac! This stove has a piezoelectric igniter built into it so you don't need to pull out matches or a lighter to get it going, this will make your life much easier when you wake up and need to get some water going for your morning coffee.

Handgun Choices

The only really good use for your handgun is to fight your way to get to your black rifle, unfortunately, it's hard to carry a black rifle for a night out on the town. I currently have only one handgun, a Taurus PT92 AF, it's almost identical to the Beretta 92 (M9), with the exception that the Taurus has a frame mounted safety/decocker. It is a huge hunk of metal, and is very tough to conceal, witch I'm not all that worried about since I let my Florida concealed weapon license lapse years ago, I have now applied for one here in Utah and am just waiting for it to come in the mail.
It doesn't matter what handgun you decide to go with, you need to practice, practice, practice. If you don't bother practicing, you are just as dangerous to the people around you as the criminal that you got the gun for protection from. You need to keep in mind that every time that you pull the trigger, a bullet comes out. You are responsible for any damage that bullet does, so it's a good idea to hit the target that you are justified in destroying. You simply can't do this without practice.

The rifle here, although not black is something that I've had for over 16 years. It's a Norinco MAK-90, a Chinese made semi-automatic version of the AK-47, the Chinese call their rifle the Type 56. There are quite a few misconceptions about the AK class of weapons, first being that you never have to clean them. This is wrong, although they don't need the meticulous cleaning regiment that the AR type rifles need, they do need to be kept clean, especially the gas system. I've had the gas piston lock in the gas tube to the point that it can't be moved by hand. I also recently had the recoil spring bind up in the bolt carrier locking the bolt to the rear, this was happening after every shot. This all came from a lack of cleaning, just saying "it's an AK, why bother" then I would clean my other guns. In short, the Kalashnikov type rifles are no doubt good weapons, and there is nothing wrong with the weapon system, you do however need to keep them clean.

Optics

Back in the day I had a 4X scope that mounted to my carry handle, it had a tunnel under it so you could still use your iron sights. This was basically the norm, either use iron sights or have a scope for long range shooting. Back in 2002 when I was at the infantry training brigade they introduced me to using a CCO (close combat optic), then it was the Aimpoint CompM2, the Aimpoint is of the absolute best sights that you can get, but they cost about $400+. The other top end option is the EOTech line of holographic weapon sights. They are meant for both eye open shooting, this makes it so you can see your target the whole time and have much better target acquisition times. These are sights, not scopes as they are typically called, they are 1X (no magnification) and are meant for use even at close range.

It's hard to see the red dot through the camera lens, but when you're looking

with your eye it's pretty easy. The green dot on the other hand is much easier

to see in low light, and the night vision mode can hardly be seen at all without

a night optic device.

I personally don't have the extra money to put down for an Aimpoint or an EOTech, so I decided on a Vortex. The Vortex Strikefire is a middle of the road red dot, it only runs about $150 and is nice and bright. One of the best things about it, and a major selling point is the warranty, it's a no BS, no product registration, lifetime warranty. This is truly a company that stands behind what they sell, very nice to see in this day and time.

If you want to get your own, Amazon has plenty of choices.

Magpul MIAD

I was down in Salt Lake City and I found a Magpul MIAD basic grip set, I had wanted to try this grip out so I picked it up. On my way home I pulled it out of it's bag and I can honestly say that I liked the way it felt in my hand. By the time that I got home I was really exited about installing it on my weapon so I jumped right at it and started in on the installation. I decided to use the "finger groove" front strap, and the "medium" back strap for it as I liked that combination the best.When I first went to put it on I noticed that it was an extremely tight fit, a very good thing, you don't want your pistol grip to be wobbly or anything. The problem came in when I actually went to screw it all on though, when I had either the medium or large backs on the grip it just didn't want to go together. When I did crank it all down it left a gap between the grip and the receiver, and it opened up a gap in the grip itself.

I finally had to settle on just using the small back for it so that everything would actually fit. The grip still does fit my hand alright, and even though I have small hands I would have preferred the next size up, unfortunately Magpul dropped the ball in making this grip and I can't use it the way I would prefer.

Iron Sights

Considering that when I built this rifle, I decided to go with a flat top A3 type upper receiver, and I didn't see any need to spend an extra $80 for a carry handle that I'm not going to use, or even keep for very long. I got a regular front site base (this I hope will go soon). I decided to go with a Magpul rear site, I like it because it folds down to a nice neat little package, and it's spring loaded to pop up into use. Unfortunately when I went in to get it, Impact Guns only had it in flat dark earth, this rifle is black so the FDE kind of stands in contrast to the rifle. It would have to be turned black to match the rifle itself. This was accomplished with a little flat black spray paint, and although it could've used another coat or two it looks a little more like it belongs on this rifle.

Constitution

Today the new congress read aloud the Constitution of these United States, they did this as a reminder as to why they are there, they also did this under protest by the democrats that were in power until just a few days ago. Why do the democrats protest the reading of the Constitution? Because they believe that it's wrong, and that the top law of the land, should be changed, this is all part of turning this country into a new socialist utopia.

Parts Kits

There are many, many, many parts kits out there, and with the Internet it just makes it easier to find exactly what you want. You can get a bare bones standard upper, or you can go all out and get everything match grade, or get get something in between. I personally looked at just about every web store that carries kits, and it came down between just a few different companies. I've used Model 1 Sales before, and was thinking about using them again, they are a good price, and last time I bought something from them they were very professional about it. It was every bit as good of quality as you would hope for. Incidentally, it was an A2 upper that I ordered from them back about 12 or 13 years ago, so I would hope that they would've only gotten better, but as time goes on you never know. I decided to go with Del-Ton for a couple of reasons, first being the price, their prices are right along the lines of being the best I could find, even being a little cheaper. Second, they made my lower, so I have a 100% Del-Ton rifle.

Lower

I bought my lower receiver from Impact Guns, they carry almost every brand that you can think of, but the price range doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. I was comparing the different brands and I couldn't tell any real difference in most of them, from the cheaper brands like Del-Ton and Smith & Wesson, to the ultra expensive brands like Bushmaster. Of the three cheapest receivers that they had I liked the finish of the Del-Ton the most, it has nice anodizing job, and the logo and serial number are cut nicely, there was another that was the same price that had the brand and serial number that looked like they were done on an old dot matrix printer like the FN models, this just looks cheap to me, and although I'm not 100% about looks here, I don't like cheap either. I settled on the Del-Ton because it was priced at $129, after I said I'd take it the salesman found out it was actually $109, so I saved about $140 over getting a bushmaster receiver, and it's every bit as good of quality.

As a side note, there are receivers that are worth the extra money that they cost, they are the "billet" receivers, most of the ones on the market are forged, and there isn't much difference between forged units.

Sling Attachment

When I went to attach a sling to my rifle I ran the sling the the top of the butt stock and to the front sight post, problem was I wasn't using the lower sling point on the butt so using the factory front sling swivel is kind of awkward. I then found this M4 sling point that actually came off an old airsoft gun that I had, it never wanted to stay on the airsoft, and I doubted if it would stay on this, but it went on nice and tight and seems like it will work without any real problems.
